My Thoughts on the Ceasefire in #Syria

Much respect, solidarity and congratulations to the people of Syria and the Syrian Arab Army! It's now day 5 of the ceasefire between the secular government of Syria and the Western-backed armed opposition groups trying to topple it. For the last five years, the national army in Syria, alongside its regional and global allies, has been the only thing preventing the country from going the way of Libya; with over 100,000 Syrian troops having been martyred in the process. The operational and logistic support received from Iran, Hezbollah and other regional partners has been nothing short of indispensable. And the contributions made by the Russian Air Force cannot be overstated. At no point during the "Global War on Terror" have we seen the threats of extremism combated so effectively.

With the severing of supply lines and the encircling of enemy troops, Syria is beginning to actualize the military solution that many swore didn't exist just a few months ago. This explains why Turkey and Saudi Arabia are threatening Syria with ground invasion. It seems the two primary enablers of ISIS are not yet ready to abandon their goal of regime change in Damascus; not that they can reverse the current trajectory. As the Saudis are preoccupied with slaughtering civilians in Yemen, the Turks face fierce Kurdish resistance plus the prospect of civil war within their borders. Meanwhile, President Assad together with President Putin continues to rid Syria of the Western-backed terrorists that have plagued the country for half a decade.

The long-awaited end to the war against Syria indicates not just a very necessary reprieve for the people of the region, not just the decline of US-European influence, not just the destruction of Sykes-Picot, but also the inevitable defeat of imperialism itself. Peace to the resistance!
